Raspy roots stylist and songwriter
Jake Morgan is a raspy—voiced roots singer and songwriter whose music feels home-grown and organic. Raised in Lichfield, UK, he learned early to handle things on his own, and music became the way he found connection. Now based in Montreal, he writes songs that explore human nature and records simply — a mic, a guitar, and whatever’s around.
At a quiet kitchen table in Montreal, sunlight falling across an old guitar, Jake Morgan’s music takes shape the same way it always has — open, honest, and raw. His raspy voice and roots-driven sound carry a warmth that feels home-grown and organic, with the grit of lived experience.
Raised in Lichfield, UK, Jake grew up keeping a lot inside, learning early to handle things on his own. Music became his way of communicating and expressing himself. From the swing and jazz records that spun through his childhood home to the first time Dylan’s cracked voice made the world feel bigger, songs offered him connection and courage. When he stepped onto a London street to busk, nerves melted into freedom — and that feeling never really left him.
Over time, Jake’s music found its own rough-cut pulse. He records simply — a mic, a guitar, and whatever’s close at hand — letting the room and its imperfections shape the sound. The result is a kind of weather-worn intimacy, carried by a voice that blends gravel and smoke, somewhere between confession and release.
What comes out might be a bit rough around the edges, but I hope the feeling comes through
His music has taken him from small rooms in the UK to festival stages and radio airplay across borders. Onstage, he moves through emotions with his guitar and harmonica — performances that are intimate and connective, the kind that make a room lean in and give way. He’s been featured on BBC 6 Music, Rebel on the Radio, and has played stages like Nozstock Festival in England and Zwerfklank Festival in Amsterdam, where he headlined a solo set on the songwriter’s stage.
Now based in Montreal, Jake is focused on releasing new bare-bones original music and building a series of intimate performances that carry that same closeness to the stage. Eclectic and understated, with a quiet kind of presence that draws people in, he continues to chase the same thing that first pulled him to play: connection, honesty, and resilience.
On “In Your Eyes”, Montréal singer-songwriter Jake Morgan blends small-room folk and country-gaze textures. Recorded at home featuring an old street-sale guitar, the song unfolds with understated honesty — voice, guitar, and harmonica in quiet conversation. It’s a reflection on connection and the wordless moments that stay long after the sound fades.
Keep Me Waiting is Jake Morgan’s first home-studio recording from Montréal — a song that captures the tension of anticipation, that fine edge between excitement and unease when waiting for someone who lingers in your thoughts.
On Sweet Babe, Jake is joined by Bristol musician Henry Slim, who played piano and harmonica and added backing harmonies — a first for Morgan. The two recorded during lockdown, sharing late-night walks and long conversations about music, life, and the songs still waiting to be written.
